The Devil's Throne

The Devil's Throne is a quasi-continent that lies just south of Azshar. It is an entirely volcanic landmass centralized around Earth's most active volcano, which is actually classified as a supervolcano. Because of the highly unusual formation of the land, and the extraordinarily hostile climate, it is not believed that the Devil's Throne can sustain any kind of life besides certain kinds of microscopic organisms, which thrive in the unique chemical composition of the waters throughout the region. The thick pall of sulphuric smoke that endlessly swirls around the continent makes breathing nearly impossible for Humans.

The dark and forboding area has given spawn to all kinds of devilish mythology based upon it. It has been confirmed by science that, despite of the constant, multiple flows of magma and lava in the Devil's Throne, there is a complex network of igneous caves that twist ever deeper towards the planet's core. While the volcanic lava flows are constantly shifting, tunnels have been located no shallower than a full mile into the crust. It is said that if one travels far enough into the caves, one will find a gate to Hell itself. Other myths branching from this belief say that the evils that plague the world escape from this gate and wander invisibly (and sometimes less invisibly than skeptics would like) into the societies of men to wreak havoc.
