Fit: Though a psion with no other physically-enhancing form of power such as ki, Ryuichi is quite fit by mortal standards. A combination of genetics and martial training have given him surprising strength and endurance, despite his delicate frame. Against most any mortal, this training and conditioning would make him an untouchable opponent even if his powers were not brought into play.

Moment of Zen: Ryuichi is trained as a Portal Keeper, a type of psionic martial art that originates from his homeland. The technique was pioneered by his great, great, great grandfather, and its secrets have been passed down to the firstborn male of each generation so that they can be preserved. Utilizing a psionic skill that relies on constant spatial awareness requires a certain calmness of mind, and when finding himself in trouble, Ryuichi is able to keep an unusually cool head.

Physical Appearance

Ryuichi's appearance is quite notable, as for as far as demihumans go, those with rodent-like appearances are quite rare. He stands average height for a woman, leaving him a bit short. Distinguishing marks are a long, naked tail, mouse-like paws, and large, round ears. Constant attention to his surroundings leave some to believe that he is always on edge, when nothing could be further from the truth.

History

As his generation's firstborn male, it falls to Ryuichi to learn and preserve the art of Portal Keeping, a style of combat pioneered by the long-dead patrons of his clan that utilizes portals to redirect harmful energy away from the body. As a neophyte in the art, he has decided for himself that personal growth and enrichment cannot come from staring at the walls of a dojo for hours upon hours each day in a state of meditation, and has opted to expose himself to the world outside of Rangoukai. Though his clan disagreed, initially overprotective of both him and the secrets he carried, they eventually relented when it became clear that if he didn't get his way, he'd simply run away from home, possibly finding even more of the same danger they were trying to protect him from. A lucky break came when his skills with manipulating time and space were noticed by a scholar from abroad, one who had begun researching similar abilities decades ago.

After meeting Mirion Kaider only once, he immediately volunteered to learn beneath him as an apprentice. Though wary of the idea at first, as Mirion shared his father's aversion to assuming positions of authority over others, Mirion eventually relented when his wife decided it would be good for him and removed any personal choice he had from the equation. Now, in addition to studying beneath Mirion Kaider as his faithful protege, he is also employed by Kriticos Enterprises, filling a low-level position that allowed him to enter the country legally on a technicality in order to work.

Little did he know that this seemingly innocent chain of events would lead him to a discovery that may very well shake Cardinal's foundations once again.
