Description

In this day and age, many fighters seek to fight smarter, and not harder. To that end, many seek enlightenment to aid them in their combat prowess. While many gain unique insight into their own abilities, very few actually achieve true enlightenment.

Logistics

This technique has two possible outcomes. The outcome is not revealed until the character has completely studied this tech.

The first possibility is an entire official tech bias increase for that character, effectively reducing all tech day costs by 25% of base.

The second possibility, usually considered the lesser possibility, gifts the user with a "plus bias". A "plus bias" is the user's existing bias affixed with a plus sign, such as "Good+". Users with a plus bias receive a 5 tech day discount toward every technique under 60 base tech days, and a 10 tech day discount toward every technique at or above 60 base tech days. The character's normal bias is then applied, after the discount.

Once the character has completed the tech day requirement for this tech, his/her owner rolls a d6 die under a staffer's supervision. A roll of 6 gifts the character with the first possibility. Any other roll gifts the character with the second possibility. Once the die has been rolled, the tech may not be refunded, nor may the player roll a die again for that particular character. The character may not retrain this tech for a second or stacking attempt, either.

All techs that provide a bias increase or tech day cost modification to the character beyond what is given in his/her race specifications must be redesigned by a staffer -- This is the only tech allowed to modify a character's tech costs.

This tech costs 120 tech days. Tech bias may not be applied to this tech.

Should the character at first not succeed, they may try, try, again. They may take additional levels of enlightenment, each costing 30 days less than the prior iteration and each granting one more chance in six to gain the full benefit. They grant no further benefit if the roll is failed, however should they continually fail the rolls, eventually the cost becomes zero, in which case they automatically are considered to have succeeded. All other things being equal this is how the progression would flow:

  • Enlightenment II: 90 days, 2-in-6 chance of success.
  • Enlightenment III: 60 days, 3-in-6 chance of success.
  • Enlightenment IV: 30 days, 4-in-6 chance of success.
  • Enlightenment V: 0 days, automatic success.

Note: When added to a new character application, Enlightenment is always considered to be the last technique learnt. This means that the potential bias increase from it does not affect any other techniques on the character application.
