These are the official character rules for Artificial Intelligences. For the story-based description of them, go here.

Name: Artificial Intelligence
Class: Minor Race
Tech Bias: Excellent
Available Power Types: Any
History and Background Page: Artificial Intelligences

Major Racial Advantages:

Wealth of Resources: Artificial Intelligences have a vast amount of processing power and a variety of databases available to them, as well as human-moderated and fully-robotic construction apparatus. As such, they have Excellent bias for developing and producing abilities, whether new or simply variations on old ones.

Minor Racial Advantages:

Dispassion: Artificial Intelligences, while usually at least partially based on human capacities, are not known for their intimate grasp of the fuzzy concept known as 'emotion'. While they can emulate and simulate them, it is an on-going argument even among AI over whether or not they can actually feel them in the same way that humans do. As such, any techniques that attempt to play on or manipulate the emotions of their subjects find Artificial Intelligences to have twice the resistance that a human would have.

Immortal: With proper maintenance, an AI is potentially immortal. Circuits can easily be replaced or repaired, and obviously they are not subject to disease or poisons.

Malleable Form: While the use of humanoid robotic forms is common with AI, it is not always the case. AIs are often installed in buildings to manage important company assets or computer networks, for instance, or to unwaveringly monitor security systems. As such, their true 'life' is not always easy to determine the location of -- indeed, they may remotely control forms that they are not even physically connected to, in some cases. The forms available to them should be specified as techniques.

Major Racial Disadvantages:

EMP Sensitivity: If an EMP's area of effect includes an AI, and possesses a PL effect greater than the AI's TotalPL, then the AI is essentially 'unconscious' for three posts while rebooting. If the PL of the effect is less than the AI's TotalPL, but still more than half the AI's TotalPL, then they are 'unconscious' for only one post. If the EMP's strength is less than half the AI's TotalPL, it has no effect. If the EMP is generated by a technique, the technique description overrules this only if a) the effects are less severe than what is described here or b) the character generating the EMP has a higher relevant PL than the AI's TotalPL. This weakness may be offset by techniques (ie, hardening of circuitry).

Inorganic: Regular organic healing techniques do not operate successfully on Artificial Intelligences. In the event of incap being suffered, their own internal repair systems must be relied upon. However the repair systems are often impeded whenever the AI is significantly damaged, so they are repaired at a rate of one incap point per two actual days or a half point per day. If the AI suffers more than twenty days of incap, its delicate systems are too badly damaged to be repaired, and it is destroyed.

Limited Power Development: Artificial Intelligences have a gain rate of only 2%, rather than the 3% that humans possess. This also reduces their daily cap gain to only 4%, rather than the 6% that humans possess.

No Epiphany Possible: Artificial Intelligences are not capable of the leaps of intuitive insight that humans are, and thus, lose the ability to achieve an Epiphany.

Minor Racial Disadvantages:

Requires Support: As Artificial Intelligences typically require a vast support and supply chain, they are typically loyal by necessity -- if nothing else -- to their creators, though with a good deal of work, they might be able to create their own covert supply chain in time.
