Appearance

Carson stands precisely six feet in height, with dark brown hair slightly longer than shoulder length, a neatly maintained mustache and goatee, and blue-green eyes. When he ventures outside of his laboratory, he usually is seen in a heavy brown coat that covers nondescript clothes and utilitarian boots. He might be considered handsome in a way, but he is largely an unremarkable human who blends into crowds well.

Powers

The primary power evidenced by this labrat-turned-Ranger is speed, and plenty of it. Carson is able to move at four times the speed of an average psion of comparable power level, and his exceptional prowess with the staff makes his melee assaults even more difficult to follow. His staff, an ongoing personal project that reflects his engineering skills, has been shown to incorporate some sort of energy deflection field with which he is able to repel energy-based attacks of all power types.

Biography

Carson is the third of seven children born to an average middle-class family in East City, and the only one so far to evidence any sort of preternatural ability. His early life was a study in the perfectly unremarkable. His father worked for one of the Magister companies that dominated the East City economy at the time, and his mother was a schoolteacher. He grew up in a busy and disciplined home, surrounded by family and activity. In his teen years, when his psionic ability came to light, the family was shocked, but took it in stride. Carson merely turned inward, focusing on his studies instead of his abilities.

It was that intense focus that led to his acceptance to prestigious Cardinal University immediately upon his graduation from high school, and the same intensity carried him through the years of study necessary to achieve his goal: a master's degree in electromechanical engineering. Upon his graduation, he was promptly recruited by a small but cutting-edge military technology firm in his hometown of East City. In the years that he worked for that firm, Carson brought to the company several patents in the realm of defensive shielding and powered armor systems.

One reason for his success was Carson's somewhat unorthodox practice of using his own psionic combat abilities to test each of his designs to his personal satisfaction before releasing them to live testing. As a result, there has not to date been a single personnel injury during live testing of his designs. In late 2004, the firm was acquired by corporate giant Empirical Industries, and Carson rode out the change, continuing his same practices of hard work and vigorous testing under the banner of EI.

During his time working at EI, however, Carson made a friend, and the two have bonded closely. It was Carson's dream to someday follow his friend Logan Seigyoku into EI's elite: the Psionic Militia. However, this opportunity never materialized, perhaps because of Carson's reluctance to venture into the field except when testing his pet project. In the end, Carson's path has taken a different direction: determined to finally put his great ability to good use, he has instead joined Cardinal's Ranger Guard as a warrior and a technician.
