Description

The RIP-22, or Reduced Impact Percussor Model 22 Assault Rifle, is the basic and standard Ranger Guard firearm weapon. While simple and unassuming in function, the RIP-22 is one of the first pieces of powered-grade combat equipment that Guard recruits are given and familiarized with, and is far more useful than it initially lets on.

The past few decades have given great advances to the understanding of firearms as they relate to power wielders. Only recently have these advances been incorporated into weapons designed for high-stakes combat.

The weapon collects a reservoir of spiritual or telekinetic energy and then processes it into minute bursts, which it fires with engineered precision a picosecond after a nearly microscopic projectile. The projectile, hence, strikes a surface first with negligible force, and releases thousands of miniscule, absorbant shards, which abate the majority of the energy's secondary force (explosions, concussive shockwaves, etc). Thus, while the target is struck repeatedly and fiercely, stray shots will not do extensive damage to buildings. Additionally, while the projectiles are still quite deadly to mortals, a struck mortal will no longer become a greasy spot on the pavement -- damage is very localized, and there is a greater chance of survival and recovery.

The weapon has a pressure-sensitive trigger, which alters its rate of fire with its degree of depression, allowing it to easily pick off single shots, or spit a laser-thin stream of death. The recoil on the weapon is so minimal that a trained Guard can easily draw a straight, unerring line across the ground with it from 50 yards away. However, the RIP-22 is unable to fire singular projectiles with any sort of significant magnitude in comparison to its wielder, which is, perhaps, its greatest downfall.

The rifle is constructed sturdily with a modern alloy that, even without its wielder's augmentation, can sustain significant powered-grade impacts. In addition, trained Guards can channel their ki or psionic energies into the chassis of the gun to further reinforce it (which, coincidentally, also charges its internal reservoir), making it highly reliable and a decent makeshift close-combat weapon.

It also posesses a powered modular attachment mount brackets, for a secondary weapon (not included in this technique) such as laser bayonets, scopes, and underslung grenade launchers.

Logistics

Rifle, powered by either PsiPL or KiPL.

Ki Mode

When powered with Ki, can fire energy bullets posessing total strength up to the user's natural charge OR ki attack strength, whichever is greater. The energy bullets are the size and shape of pencils, which do not explode, but penetrate until their energy is consumed. No single bullet may surpass one third of the rifle's total post capacity. Up to fifty bullets may be fired per post. All bullets travel at 50% user's KiPL. This weapon does not rely on the user's ability to fire ki blasts. This weapon mode causes loud reports.

Psi Mode

When powered with Psi, can fire concussive bullets posessing total strength up to the capacity of a single psi slot. The bullets are the size of marbles, and posess the same qualities as psionic waves. No more than a single slot can be stored for use in the rifle at one time. No single bullet may surpass one half of the rifle's total post capacity. Up to fifty bullets may be fired per post. All bullets travel at 50% user's PsiPL. This weapon does not rely on the user's ability to use TK waves. This weapon mode is completely silent in operation, and the bullets are very difficult to see, and the recoil is minimal. The bullets do make a low, roaring noise when they are in flight. They have little to no penetrating power, as their power is delivered on the first impact over a small radius, but make excellent stealth attacks.

Miscellaneous Statistics

Character abilities that can extend effects over their normal ki/psi projectiles may not be extended over rifle projectiles. Attempts to do so may cause rifle malfunction. Ammunition is unlimited, and is always loaded.

Rifle posesses a default durability of 1,000 PL. When charged with ki or psi, or when protected by any foreign energies, the default PL no longer applies. If the rifle is charged with ki, the rifle gains the benefits of Durability Sharing, even if the user does not have that technique. If the rifle is charged with psi, the rifle gains the benefits of Passive Defense Linking, even if the user does not have that technique. If the user DOES have either technique, they may not stack with their own equivalents on the rifle. However, a ki/psi user could charge his rifle with ki (gaining Durability Sharing benefits) and stack it with Passive Defense Linking, if he has that technique, and vice-versa.

May be upgraded by eligible RG CTs, or original upgrade techs that are explicitly approved for application by Icebreed.

This tech requires 15 (11/19) tech days of research.

Society Details

RIP-22 Rifles are standard issue for Ranger Guards. All ki- and psi-enabled Guards in training receive 1 RIP-22 Rifle free of charge from their organization. However, use of the rifle requires training, which is what the tech day research stands for. Once training is complete, should a Guard lose his/her rifle or have it broken/destroyed during honorable conduct, he/she may immediately requisition another and receive it in 3 days (not tech days).

RIP-22 training is a requirement for graduation for all Guard recruits with supermortal ki or psionic energies.
