Appearance
Nashi stands six feet, two inches in height, which is somewhat on the tall side for a Saiyan female, and has dark auburn hair and brown eyes. Her build is lean and rugged, and she tends to favor very utilitarian clothing, such as khaki pants with cargo pockets, heavy hiking boots, and long-sleeved denim shirts. She has no tail, and no scarring or other evidence that she has ever posessed one.
Powers
Nashi's combat style centers around the use of a fourteen-foot, ki-empowered, dinosaur-skin and titanium wire bullwhip. She has been known to use the whip to manifest a ki-blade attack, as well as a binding attack that renders her opponent temporarily immobile. She has also achieved the first level of the Saiyan birthright, the ascension to Super Saiyan, and has mastered the necessary emotional control to use the transformation at will.
Biography
Nashi Yamashima was born on New Vegeta, very shortly after the founding of that world. Her birthdate was recorded in what would equate to fall of the year 1975 in Cardinalian reckoning. She was the only child born to Suika Inoshi and Hakusai Yamashima. Though her elder half-brother Ookami Yamashima bears the family name, he was actually the product of his mother's infidelity and is not Nashi's father's son.
When Nashi was two years old, her father kidnapped the young Saiyaness, feigned both their deaths, and took her to Cardinal, where he raised her in a cave hidden in the mountain rage to the east of Central Capital. She grew up in the wild, learning the ways of survival in the wilderness, as well as being tutored in the Yamashima family's traditional weapon - the whip. Her father instilled in her an abiding distaste for cities and crowds, and his own opinion that the mortals of Cardinal are best protected by staying as far away from them as possible. When she reached the age of twelve, Nashi witnessed her father's murder by an earth mage who remains as yet unknown. This triggered in her two traits that abide to this day - her first ascension to Super Saiyan, and a deep distrust of magic and mages.
Orphaned, but with Saiyan strength, the knowledge of the wilderness, and an instinct for survival, Nashi lived alone in the wild parts of Cardinal for many years, only venturing into the cities when she needed supplies that she could not obtain otherwise. With instinct and training keeping her well away from the mortal eyes of the world, Nashi remained hidden from the public eye and the great conflicts of the world until she reached the age of twenty-nine.
It was one of her occasional supply trips that led Nashi into a chance meeting that would change her life forever. On the streets of West City, she encountered a young half-Saiyan whose name she had heard in tales of the great war against Yakeoni and Vegeta (see The First to Fall for details) - one William Schmidt. As a Saiyan, she was unable to resist the challenge of pitting her strength against that of the renowned halfbreed, and over time, they became sparring partners and fast friends. Still, Nashi did not give up her wandering ways, and in between her encounters with Will, she met and befriended another young halfbreed, Tamanegi Niyama, who also became a regular training partner. When Will decided to build a dojo in the forests between West and Central, Nashi pitched in to help her friend with his endeavor. She wandered less and less as the months wore on, and began spending the majority of her time at the dojo, even coming to refer to Will's dojo as 'home' although she still slept at a campsite on the far reaches of the dojo grounds. In mid-2005, Nashi became pregnant, in the winter she agreed to marry Will, and on January 13, 2006, their daughter Sarah June Schmidt was born.
In the intervening time, Nashi met a Saiyan male who wielded a strange whip-sword weapon, and who immediately recognized both her name and her whip-based style of combat. A recent arrival from New Vegeta after many years of galactic wandering, Ookami Yamashima, a weaponsmith by trade, recognized in Nashi his long-lost and presumed dead younger sister. The siblings have bonded slowly, but the ties of blood are strong between them. In early 2006, shortly after the ending of the Chorus war and the beginning of the Tenkaichi Budoukai, Nashi's mother also relocated to Cardinal from New Vegeta, completing the presence of the Yamashima family on Earth.
As well, Nashi had a series of escalating encounters over several months with a mage named Deyna Alkanet. Their first meeting, and two subsequent ones, ended in violence, but in time Deyna came to Nashi to make amends for his behavior. Having been taught by Will that everyone deserves a second chance, Nashi gave Deyna the chance he requested to mend his ways. Nashi and Deyna became close friends and regular sparring partners as well. Deyna was responsible for finally mitigating what was once a virulent hatred of magic in Nashi, when he used his most powerful shielding spells to protect her during a battle against Chorus forces at the end of the Chorus invasion. While she no longer bears a murderous hatred for them, Nashi still distrusts magic and mages, and works toward developing combat techniques that will be especially effective against those who wield the arcane forces.
Once she had been eliminated from the heavyweight competition in the Budoukai, Nashi turned her attentions back to the dojo, and she has begun teaching. Starting with only her closest family and friends, the Saiyaness is a difficult and picky mistress. She teaches the same brutal, no-nonsense style with which she fights, but places great emphasis on fighting at the right times and for the right reasons, values instilled in her by the friends she made when she finally emerged into a more public life. Her star student, Tamanegi Niyama, placed third in the middleweight division of the 2006 Budoukai, an accomplishment of which Nashi is very proud. At present, Nashi and Will have still not yet married, though they reside together at the dojo as a family and are busy raising their daughter together.
Location
Nashi still occasionally wanders the wild lands of Cardinal, and she still avoids the cities and anyplace heavily populated. Most often, however, she can be found at home at the Schmidt Dojo, either teaching, training herself, or spending time with her family.
