For ki warriors, the ability to link their own ki into their weapons is invaluable -- without it, they'd be limited to fighting with bare fists and blasts, save if some powerful weapon fell into their hands. As that's a rarity, most opt to use this technique when wielding blades and such.

Once mastered, the ki wielder may link their durability with as many objects as they have connected to their body -- typically the weapons in their hands -- as they wish. Doing so provides no reduction to the damage taken. It merely causes damage to otherwise-mortal objects to be transferred to the ki wielder instead. These objects must remain in direct contact with the ki wielder's body to sustain the durability sharing.

Psions occasionally have been known to pick up a blade, or other weapon, in defense of their lands. This technique permits them to temporarily link a wielded weapon into their Passive Defence pools, providing them with a much more durable weapon than they might otherwise have.

Once mastered, the psion may link with one object within their SoI per slot. They may use as many slots in a single round to link as they have available, but all linked objects must remain in the psion's SoI -- if any leave, they are immediately delinked, and must be returned to the SoI and another slot expended to relink them, if it is wished. Once linked, however, provided items do not leave the SoI, they remain linked until the psion dismisses the ability. Linked items can only draw off of what part of the PD pool the psion makes available, by giving slots to it in the round the items take damage, identically to if the psion him or herself had been the victim of the attack. If the psion spends no slots on PD, then the weapons gain no durability that round.
