Angler: Though he is a man of science and was, until recently, a highly-respected authority on research involving the Void, Zeredar's roots are humble. He began life as a fishmonger, just like his brother Bramwyn, though upon graduating primary school, he chose to pursue an education and leave Chelten behind. This does not mean he's not still an expert fisherman.

Emwei: Emwei is the name of Zeredar's personal assistant. She is an artificial intelligence housed within a small shard of crystal that he generally keeps on his person at all times. Emwei remains the only 'person' to stand by Zeres after his disastrous journey into the heart of the Void, and continues her duties as his helper and friend.

Physical Appearance

Like his brother Bramwyn, Zeres stands at an imposing height. At six feet and three inches, he lacks the bulk and muscle of his big brother but can still at least fill out his frame. Dark skin, pale hair, and bright blue eyes are all hallmarks of the He'nateth clan, calling back to their long history of living within Chelten.

History

Zeres began life as a fisherman alongside his brother Bramwyn. While Bramwyn was quick to marry and start a family of his own (eventually giving Zeres three nieces and a nephew), Zeres led a more solitary life and focused on books. When he came of age, he left Chelten to pursue an education, and his particular interest in what Shen'Ihr understand as 'The Void' shaped him both as a student and as a scientist. On the heels of a major breakthrough with Void research, Zeres himself managed to pinpoint its physical location in space. Ignoring the advice of his colleagues, he spearheaded a project to create a craft that could travel through the void and return safely.

In some ways, he was successful; the craft did indeed enter the Void and remain whole. What he saw on the other side, however, instantly withered his hopes that the discovery of the Void's physical location would lead to any additional breakthroughs in the field. There was literally nothing. No matter, no antimatter, no light, no darkness, simply a place within the universe where things did not exist for an unknown reason. Disheartened that there was nothing beyond the void to study, he returned. Upon crossing the threshold a second time, however, his power, connection to the remainder of the Gatekeepers, and even his link to the Mindsea were all instantly severed.

Psionic powers crippled by the incident and incapable of even manifesting basic telepathy, he was quickly shunned by the scientific community for what they viewed as a reckless and pointless waste of time and resources. With no power to speak of and nowhere else to go, Zeres returned home. His elder brother advised him to travel to Earth if he wished to continue his research, as three of his children were there and had overcome similar difficulties with the help of Earth's people. Dismayed at the idea of traveling to such a primitive backwater planet, but excited at the proposition of continuing his work, he left straight away.
