Appearance

Kyuukei stands about five and a half feet, with a curvaceous build. Her wild aqua-colored mane of thick Saiyan hair is just about waist-long and usually tied back in a neat ponytail. (Well, as neat as Saiyan hair can be, one supposes.) Her sense of fashion tends to vary widely, from the modest dresses and kimonos favored by her mother to more trendy teen-typical clothing. Whatever she wears, incorporated somewhere into the ensemble is a long, thin crimson scarf. Those schooled in some of Cardinal's more obscure cultures might recognize it as a symbol of marriage from a tribe in the northern mountains, which Kyuukei wears in place of a wedding band. More often than not, she carries her weapon of choice slung against her back - a heavy six-foot staff made of solid steel.

Powers

Kyuukei seems to show more of an aptitude than most for using her twin powers - psionics and ki - in concert for melee purposes. Additionally, she has evidenced the ability to re-balance her power levels, cannibalizing her ki to increase her psionic ability, as well as the total concealment of all power signatures from all but the most piercing of senses. Though it is not precisely a power of her own, she is also known to possess some small degree of shapeshifting and disguise ability courtesy of an enchanted ring worn on her right middle finger.

Biography

Born to Reiko Niyama in the small village of Ichido, Kyuukei and her twin brother Tamanegi Niyama were raised in a quiet simple life. Neither exceedingly poor nor entirely comfortable, both twins learned the meaning of work at an early age assisting their single mother around the house and garden. Kyuukei, in particular, was raised to stifle and disregard her Saiyan blood as much as possible, in order to be a proper young lady and eventually a good wife to some village boy.

This didn't sit well with Kyuukei, and she spent many years of her childhood secretly training with her brother, the guardian of the family, against her mother's wishes. The day after the twins' sixteenth birthday, she ran away from home to join the 2005 Tenkaichi Budoukai, and against Kyuukei's express wishes, her brother followed. From her arrival at the tournament, a whirlwind life swept up the young halfbreed, and it has never ceased. She fared badly at the tournament; which is to say, she lost every match except the one against a cloaked and masked foe who proved in the end to be her own twin.

The tournament took two positive turns for her, however. A meeting with a demihuman whom her brother had battled became a great opportunity: James Kaider, then just conceiving the idea of opening his academy for psions, invited Kyuukei and her brother to be his first students, based on the potential represented by their already existing empathic bond. The twins, as well as William Schmidt, were the first proofs of Kaider's theory that psionic potential could be unlocked through education, practice, and electronic stimulation.

Another chance meeting in the stands between matches would also change her life. Altar Raines, a hard-nosed street tough from the back alleys of Central, caught her attention. Harsh words were exchanged between the two, leading to a spar - and a bet. Neither of the two were able to gain the upper hand, but chemistry had begun and a connection had been made that would endure. At the end of the tournnament, the two moved into a tiny apartment in Central together, and were all but inseparable except for Altar's frequent lengthy wanderings.

Following on the heels of the tournament, the events of the Etiquette of Reform era, as well as the attentions of two terrible villains (renegade ninja Reada Kai and her own father, space pirate Jagaimo Nuaichi) continued to complicate Kyuukei's life. Driven to the brink of sanity by the ninja's conflicting assertions that her heart was too pure for evil, but that he would turn her to his path of darkness and make her just like him, as well as by the final confrontation that led to her decapitating her father with his own shattered weapon, did their part in destabilizing her mental and emotional state.

These events, and a lengthy separation from Altar, as well as a bitter dispute with her own twin, left her brooding and angry, and for reasons that no one save the girl herself understands, she turned tail and left the battlefield in the arms of the enemy one fateful day, after spitting cold and hateful words at her brother. Remorse took over almost immediately, and in the end it was her classmate and friend Will Schmidt who retrieved her from the Chorus and brought her back to Earth. When the day for the final battle against the Chorus came, she chanced her own annihilation by both sides of the battle to do what she saw as setting things right.

Boarding ARCHIE III in the guise of a male halfbreed named Ceila Mai, she slaughtered several Chorus mercenaries and played a role in disarming the bomb modules that threatened to destroy the station. In the final minutes of the battle, she revealed her identity, and in a calculated suicidal move, attempted to call the attention of the Chorus leader upon herself while he was surrounded by Cardinal's defenders. It was at that instant, however, that her mentor and father-figure, James Kaider, defeated the Shen'Ihr, and the battle was over. Resuming her disguise, she faded quietly into the crowd and left the station with her twin, with whom she had finally reconciled.

Peacetime, after the war ended, was uneventful for the first time in the girl's turbulent young life. She continued to attend classes at Kaider's Schule, as well as working there full-time in the capacity of dormitory manager. She turned herself in to Alothin's custody at the beginning of the 2006 Budoukai, and still spends a good deal of her time at Deius Castle while she awaits the final judgment for her war crimes. In return, she repays Alothin's kindness by making herself openly available for sparring with the members of his personal security force, the Psionic Militia. Midway through the tournament, some year and three months after their meeting at the previous year's event, Kyuukei and Altar were married. Life, at the moment, consists largely of waiting, working, and doting over her husband and her brother.
