The Arena

Standard Battle Types:

Single Battle

  • Works like an exhibition aside from a ranking battle.

Team Battle

  • A team of two or three take on various opponents or characters.

Ranking Battle

  • Ranking battle represent the top fighters in the world. This may only be done in singles comp.

Single Battle Rules:

  • One-on-one combat either against another character or generated opponent by the owner or co-owners.
  • Rolling for first is required, since it can decide the fate of the battles outcome. A user must roll a 1d10. Whoever scores the lowest loses, and a tie means another roll for both players.

Team Battle Rules:

Typically a two-on-two style of combat against another set of characters or generated opponents by the owner or co-owners. However, a two-on-two style of combat has two sub-options:

Tornado Match

  • A Tornado match is a tag team free-for-all bou where each opponent fights the other side equally with not limits.

Timed Tag Match

  • This choice limits each fighter to a certain time to fight. Usually, without special permission, a timed-tagged match requires that each fighter on each side can only compete for three posts (of their own) before being required to "tag" the other teammate in. This offers for an interesting combat setting.
  • Rolling for first is required since it can decide the fate of the battle's outcome. A team must roll a 1d10 once. Whichever team scores the lowest loses, and a tie means another roll for each team.

Possible wins/loses:

  • Knockout
  • Exhaustion
  • Disqualification
  • Ring Out
  • Double Knockout
  • Death

Ranking Battle Types

Psionic Ranking

  • This is where psionic fighters can compete.

Magic Ranking

  • This is where the magical and arcane warriors can compete.

Ki Ranking

  • This is where the spiritually powerful can compete

Physical Ranking

  • This is where the naturally strong, mechanically inclined, or customary fighters can compete.

Cross Ranking

  • This is where any power-type can compete against one another. Split power levels can also compete here without any restriction.
  • Characters with split power-types may compete in either battle type, but they can only use the power-type that qualifies them for that section. A character with psionic and ki abilities may enter the ki division, but his psionic skills being used in that instance will disqualify him, etc.

Battle Ranking Interpretations:

  • D - For Beginners. This ranking division has opponents and/or characters in the 100-1099 power range, or tech skill equivalent.
  • C - For Slightly experienced. This rank has opponents and/or characters in the 1100-5099 power range, or tech skill equivalent.
  • B - Intermediate. This rank has opponents and/or characters in the 5100 - 19,999 power range, or tech skill equivalent.
  • A - Advanced. This rank has opponents and/or characters in the 20,000 - 80,000+ power range, or tech skill equivalent.
  • S - Expert. Competitors that compete in this rank are determined by the staff, or myself. Usually 100,000 in the minimum power or tech strength to enter, and can go to any level.

Possible wins/loses:

  • Knockout
  • Exhaustion
  • Disqualification
  • Ring Out
  • Double Knockout
  • Death

Ranking Battle Rules

  • Singles competition only.
  • This is what the entire arena is about. This is the actual competition where your points, wins or loses determine what prizes you win, and not to mention your overall competition status amongst the ranks.
  • Each Rank is determined by the level of the player(s) ability whether it be actual power, spells, tech premise, etc.
  • To advance in a rank, you must qualify for the rank level in PL, or tech prowess as the staff sees fit.

Prizes

Ranking Battle Earnings:

The earnings system varies on your rank. Obviously, the higher the rank, the higher the prizes. Certain prizes may benefit you in combat more than the typical, but others are more for status than anything related to combat.

The prizes are then determined by the various dice roll (ex: 1d4, 1d6 etc) and an additional amount of zenny to help bring the user along. A chatter may have as many prizes as they can win, but only two may be used per battle. None of the prizes stack. None of these prizes may be used outside of the arena battles. In order to receive a prize, you must win at least 3 straight battles in the ranking level.

All prizes are compatible with all power-types. Of course, the rules take primary concern so, for example, if its a prize that increases your speed, it may have to be applied like a psion uses his/her speed mechanics. An item that boosts durability would probably just power a psion's passive or active defense, etc.

When the prizes are used in combat, most are discarded afterward so choose wisely!

  • This does not include Championship belts or status, and some other items.

Championship Belts and Status

These prizes are a bit more complicated. For one, the only go to the rankings B-S. Determining champions can be difficult, and this is why the rules are so strict on qualifying. In each rank, you must have a substantial amount of wins in a row (10). The amount of total loses a character has does not disqualify them. If more than one character qualifies for the championship belts and status, then the total number of qualifying fighters must compete in a sudden-death tournament, the victor being the last one standing. This will allow for a fair winner.

  • If no one character qualifies for the belt, then the belt and status remains suspended until someone does qualify.

D- Ranking Prizes: (4 total prizes) (1d4 roll)

  • Stamina Vial: Replenishes +20% to overall stamina for the remainder of the battle. Requires a post of non-action to use.

  • Energy Lift: Replenishes 50% of overall stamina for the remainder of battle.
  • Shell: Replenishes 50% of overall durability for the the remainder of the battle.
  • B-Ranking Championship Belt, Lion Tamer Status: This is the first of the championships in the ranking. When a character owns this belt, it increases his base charge by 10%, speed by 10%, durability by 50% and stamina by 100% while in the arena. The Lion Tamer status also raises the character's base power level by 10% while in the arena.

A- Ranking Prizes: (7 total Prizes) (1d6 roll)

  • Stamina Replicator:Enhances stamina +100% for the battle, passive.-
  • Battle Vest: Enhances durability +100% for battle, passive.
  • Power Gloves: Strength increased by 30% for battle, passive.
  • Speed Boots: Speed increased by 25% for battle, passive.- Charge Conductor (wrist-device)- +20% to character's base charge-rate for battle, passive.
  • Action Enhancer, Active: Allows the user to take one extra action during the battle. Works like Extra Action, Active CT level 1. Requires post of non-action to use.
  • A-Ranking Championship Belt, Pain Giver Status : This is the second of the championships in the ranking. When a character owns this belt, it increases his base charge by 20%, speed by 20%, durability by 100% and stamina by 200% while in the arena. The Pain Giver status also allows the character to use Itamiken, Cazyn's personal trophy sword, in battle. This is allowed as long as the character remains champion.* All items, except for the Championship or Action Enhancer may be used in more than one bout, however, each item shares durability with the user (meaning it takes damage when the character does). They can also only be used in the A Ranking.

S- Ranking Prizes: (9 total Prizes) (1d8 roll)

  • Jack of all Trades Vial: Boosts Strength by 25% and speed by 25% for six rounds, requires a round of non-action to use.- *Action Enhancer, Passive: Allows the user to take extra action during the battle. Works like Extra Action, Passive CT level 2.
  • Defense Booster: Works like the CT Focused Defense, takes a round of non-action to use. Lasts for one round.- Offense Booster: Works like the CT Focused Offense, takes a round of non-action to use. Lasts for one round.
  • Earth Crusher, axe: This double-headed axe Deal's 80% base damage, and moves at 50% base speed. A character can increase this be learning weapon proficiency. Durability is shared with the character. Heavy Metal, trait: This axe deals an additional 20% damage when used against shields or armor. This does not include mage barriers or a psion's passive defense.
  • Coral, staff: Don't let the rather plain appearance of this staff fool you. This staff increases a user's base charge by 10%, and shares durability with the user. Way of Life, trait: This trait applies an element to the character's attack. It can be either earth, wind, water or fire, and is decided by a 1d4 roll. No direct damage added. Intelligence, trait: The staff can actually speak with the character on an impressive level.
  • Gauntlets of Truth, item: This prize grants +100% durability to a combatant in a barrier-like fashion. It shares its item durability with the character, and cannot replenish the barrier effect after it diminishes. Crystal Vision, trait: This trait offers nothing more than the ability to see if a character is lying or not. The gauntlets glow a faint orange aura when this happens.
  • Hermes Glasses, item: Oddly enough, despite the rather bland appearance, these shades grant the user an additional 25% speed boost to all attacks. This does not include base speed however. Attractiveness, trait: While wearing these glasses other characters will find the user extremely attractive despite any real appearances.
  • S-Ranking Championship Belt, Absolute Champion Status: This is it. The daddy of all the titles. When a character owns this belt, it increases his base charge by 30%, speed by 30%, durability by 100% and stamina by 200% while in the arena. It also reduces stamina usage on non-technique attacks by 25%. The Absolute Champion status grants the character an immense amount of respect, which lowers the opponents strength by 10% for one round, and the opponent's charge rate by 20% for three rounds. this also increases the champion's focus (eyesight) by 100% at the beginning of the fight for three rounds.
  • Earth Crusher, Coral, Gauntlets of Truth, Hermes Glasses. These items may be used more than one battle. However, once one item is taken, it is removed from the list. Also, because of the raw power and ability of these prizes they count as using two items in combat.* This does not include S-ranking championship belt and status, or the other remaining prizes which can only be used in the S-ranking class and are disposable after use.

After a Match

After a match, one of those competing should make a post on the MB, on a special thread, detailing the following:

  • The Battle Ranking
  • The characters that fought in the battle
  • How the battle was won, and who won the contest
  • This will be moderated on an MB thread by myself and staffers.
  • Awards may not be given until the battle is approved

Gambling

A character can gamble on a fight, winning in-arena prizes based on the outcome. However, these prizes are based on chance, and of course, if the outcome is not what the character gambled for, they must submit an amount of tech days equivalent to the items value as a cost. Therefore, gambling in the S class ranking might be more beneficial, but the costs are greater.

The prizes gambled for cannot exceed the characters ranking. Such as, a character that can only fight in the D-class cannot gamble for a prize from the A-class,etc.

  • Belts may not be gambled for.
  • Rank D-C charges: 2 tech days
  • Rank B-A charges: 4 tech days, 7 tech days
  • Rank S charges: 10 tech days. Tech days for Earth Crusher, Coral, Gauntlets of Truth, Hermes Glasses is debatable by staffer and also takes special approval from me to gamble for. Usually this takes place in character.
  • Gambling characters may RP during the fight, observing the combatants.

Location / Regional Description

West City is a major metropolis of Cardinal, home to 9.2 million people. It acts as the country's technological capital. The newest inventions can always be found first in West City before anywhere else in the country. With the largest amount of government grants and contracts given out to technology and high-tech firms of all of the directional cities, West City is home to most of the country's bleeding-edge scientific advances, of every design.

The arena itself spans vastly beneath the city. It is difficult to say exactly how large the underground is, since it expands at an acceptable rate, but the amount of entrances can be summed up to about a dozen throughout the city. Usually one doesn't hear about the arenas unless it is "word-of-mouth", but if a character did hear about the exclusive location they would be directed to an entrance by a member and met by heavy security before even being allowed in.

The Broken Fist has a vast bar and dining area where most can enjoy a well-cooked meal while enjoying a bout. There is also a full workout facility that has a few S.E.I.R. systems, a small hotel stay, slot-machines, card tables, and various other sub-entertainments. All entertainments are completely legal, and taxed.

There is also a chance that some can live at The Broken Fist. Typically this is for housing power-wielding orphans, much like Cazyn Ravi, and those who cannot manage themselves otherwise. Very rarely is one allowed to live at the arena without specific selection and/or permission.

Population Breakdown

This is an area that is generally difficult to define because of the general nature of The Broken Fist. It is obvious that there is a lot of traffic through it for those who manage to discover or find leads to the arena. Not only that, but the variation of people, and race types can really be anything.

  • Dorms: 50+ occupants, including members of The Dark
  • Hotel: Varies, typically a higher amount than the dorms.

Local Government

None.

There simply isn't any government management that effects the facility. On top of that, not even the surfaces police or regulators have any real influence in the arenas. However, Cazyn Ravi manages things himself along with his private group known simply as "The Dark". This group, operating almost like a neutral mafia, is a collection of loyal members of the Broken Fist that have dedicated themselves to maintaining order for anyone who gets out of line. They are the security, eyes, ears, informers and first line of defense for the arenas, and have a small influence on the surface of the city. While they are loyal to the bone, they cannot ever assist Cazyn directly in a battle or anywhere else for that matter. This does not apply to characters that are playable and owned by muns.

While they may not have as many numbers, or as much funding, The Dark should be taken just as seriously as the Ranger Guard. It should be noted that playable characters, and characters of chatters can apply to join this group. There is an initiation requirement with Cazyn Ravi, and the character that wants to join must have a substational amount of ability determined by myself. This is an elite group, so therefore, it is extremly difficult to join.

  • Applications for this group are not being discussed just yet. I will make a formal post on the MB when ready.

Defenses

The defensive capabilities are not as wide-ranged as most places in the world of Cardinal, but its the condensed location that actually makes it a more beneficial spot to protect seeing as it is underground for one, and the tunneling effect brings an infiltrating enemies numbers to its knees. While Cazyn Ravi and The Dark are the main defense when it comes to personnel, the arenas also have other capabilities.

  • Security cameras
  • Photon turrets with 360 degree rotation located throughout the facility. Most areas they are concealed, but it isn't surprising that some of the corridors reveal the security bluntly.
  • Let's be honest folks, this is a fighting arena, so more than likely anyone who attacks it is going to be met with some high powered force. Attack at your own risk.

The arena where the fighters actually compete has some high-quality impact resistance technology as well. This is to prevent powered characters from obliterating the area and spectators. The cage is encased with additional photon shielding, making most attacks that surpass the ring's perimeter practically null. However, unlike the turrets, this technology will not harm fighters in any way if they come into contact with it.

History

The history of The Broken Fist is actually a long one. It has been in West City for many eras, even more-so hidden than it is today. Originally, the facility was founded by a man named Brann Steel, a traveling mercenary and merchant. He was keen on the idea of creating a dojo, and as such he retired from his business and freelance work as a mercenary and settled down to create a well organized training facility. At first things went well, but Brann, a natural nomad of sorts, grew tired of the every day routine. Throughout the world, powered fighters and non-powered fighters alike were destroying and leveling cities around them in pointless combat. Brann saw this as an opportunity for business...

A year or so would pass, and as the idea grew Brann closed off his dojo, deciding that by giving the city a place where its fighters, good and unreasonable alike, could unleash their aggression in a focused environment, that he was in fact protecting the city itself. It worked to a certain extent, and Brann went on to live a long and wealthy life. When he died, the man passed his ownership rights down in a joined fashion to two individuals. One of the individuals was Jared Tencage, a long time friend and traveling partner. The other was to his bodyguard and apprentice, a man named Victor Rand. Rand was a powerful fighter and one of the most influential katana swordsman that Cardinal had ever seen. Years would pass, and the two would seem to have things under control. That was until Victor's ambition got the best of him...

On the side, Victor Rand had actually begun dealing dirty, scheming and plotting cheaper ways to make money, and could care less about his former master's dream. It went from this petty thought process, and evolved into murder in cold blood for profit. He began to see the world as a cage, and he wanted to be free of it. The man who had partnered with Jared had become drunk with ideals of power, and lost sight of his true meaning. In a particular event, Rand murdered two good friends of Jared Tencage, Havia Ravi along with his wife. Eventually, Jared caught on to his after a while, and called Victor out to a match. Victor and Jared would battle it out. Tencage would nearly lose his leg in the battle, but overcame the villainous apprentice, and banished the blades-man away from the arena, taking full power.

The battle would not settle there however. Realizing that they were going to be murdered ahead of time, Havia sent his son to an orphanage to be safe. Years would pass, and eventually that young boy by the name of Cazyn Ravi, would escape the orphanage fleeing with dreams of a larger world. The boy would travel to West City, seeming to accidentally run into a stranger that took him in. Victor Rand, recognizing the boy immediately, sent him to the arenas the begin his plot of revenge. He knew that if the boy was anything like Havia, he would prove a worthy ally.

Many years went by, and Victor Rand reappeared later threatening to murder Cazyn if he did not help him with his plan. A series of terrorist attacks began to take place afterward, Rand trying his best to convince the cage-fighter to join his cause. Ultimately it failed, and Cazyn, with the help of close friends, was able to expel and ultimately defeat Victor Rand, putting him to rest once and for all (See Mini-plot, Grim Coins For The Reaper).

Time would pass again until the era of Yakeoni in which demons were released from the afterlife throughout the world. In this state of anarchy, the arenas were completely decimated in Yakeoni's wake, and Cazyn had been torn. In the final battle Cazyn was killed, but not before being saved and transmitted to a Lost android body by James Specht and Trance. As time went by, he gained a large amount of respect from the world and in his position on Archie III and in overall skill. At the end of the The Chorus invasion, where earth made its last defense and repelled the invading force, the android decided that it was time for him to retire and go back to his roots. He rebuilt the arenas from the ground up, making them more than Brann could have ever dreamed of. Cazyn Ravi dedicates his life to Brann, Jared and the arenas, and intends to make The Broken Fist a shelter for those who want to fight, but have nowhere to go.
